casa escrivà
A gem from the past
Casa Hemeroscopea or Casa Escrivà is one of the architectural pearls that remains intact despite several demolishing proposals, among other singular buildings of Jávea, such as Rius Raus, all of them built back in the XIX century, time of the raisin trade.

successful film maker.
The Hemeroscopea estate was built in 1941. Its first inhabitant was Vicente Escrivá Soriano, a well-known Spanish film-maker who, during the post-war period and up until the 1990s, was a successful scriptwriter and director of feature films and series of all kinds. When Escrivá triumphed, he arrived in Jávea with one purpose in mind, to buy the old finca where his parents had been working for a well-known Jávea family as labourers and landlords, demolish it and build a new one. In one of the rooms of Hemeroscopea there is an emblem that Escrivá made his own "From the bottom to the top", with an arrow, so as not to forget his humble origins and the opportunity to prosper and climb the ladder in the difficult elitist society of the last century.
